The Christian hope

Christians believe that Jesus Christ will return for those who belong to Him. The New Testament describes a moment when believers are gathered to Christ — often called “the rapture”.

This page explains the idea simply: what Christians believe will happen, why many believers are watchful, and why the Bible presents this as hope, not fear

Not panic ⦿ Readiness

The Bible does not encourage fear-driven obsession with dates or timelines. Instead, believers are called to stay awake spiritually, remain faithful, and live with expectation that Christ will return

What happens at the rapture?

The clearest description comes from 1 Thessalonians 4 and 1 Corinthians 15. Paul describes believers being gathered to Christ in a moment of sudden transformation

Christ returns visibly

Paul describes “the Lord Himself” descending with a commanding shout, the voice of the archangel, and the trumpet of God

Believers who have died are raised

Christians who have already died are not forgotten. Scripture teaches that they will rise first and be with Christ

Living believers are transformed

Those still alive when Christ returns are described as being changed “in the blink of an eye” and gathered to Him

Believers are with Christ forever

The central promise is not escape for its own sake, but eternal life with Jesus Christ beyond sin, death and separation

“Encourage each other with these words.”
1 Thessalonians 4:18

What did Jesus and Paul teach?

The Bible teaches that the exact timing is unknown. But it also says believers should recognise the season, remain spiritually awake, and avoid being spiritually asleep or distracted

Like labour pains beginning

Paul compares the approach of the day to labour pains. A pregnant woman may not know the exact moment, but there are increasing signs that the birth is near

Children of the light

Paul says believers should not be surprised by the day of the Lord. Christians are called to stay spiritually alert and clearheaded

Not fear, but confidence

The New Testament repeatedly points believers toward confidence in Christ, not terror. Christian hope rests on who Jesus is and what He has promised

Faithfulness still matters

While waiting, believers are encouraged to continue loving, serving, encouraging others, and remaining steady in faith

What happens after the rapture?

Many Christians believe the world enters a period of severe upheaval and tribulation after believers are gathered to Christ. The Bible describes deception, conflict, judgment and global pressure increasing during this time
